HELP US GET TO HARVARD
Hello Everyone! My name is Valeria and this year I’m glad to be part of the Delegation for the United Nations Model in Harvard (HNMUN) of the Simón Bolívar University in Caracas, Venezuela.
If you’re not familiar with HNMUN, let me begin by telling you it’s the largest and most prestigious model united nations in the world (if you want to know more about it, click the link above!)
My delegation has been awarded many times through the years, we’ve had more than 140 individual awards and five times we’ve been awarded with the prize of “Best International Delegation”. Also this year we managed to obtain the prize of “Outstanding Large Delegation” which is the second place of the whole competition.
Our goal is to keep competing and despite all the bad things happening right now, somehow be able to bring joy to everyone in our country with our participation and hopefully our awards as well.
What’s the issue this year?
If you’re not familiar with the situation happening right now in Venezuela, let me begin by telling you it’s bad. Right now, among a lot of other factors, we have the highest inflation rate in history. Our only access to dollars is through the black market, which right now (6/5/17) it’s at Bs. 6205,98 per dollar (I say today because tomorrow it might be higher). We need the money to be able to afford plane tickets, the hotel in Boston, the application fee for the conference, among other travel expenses. It doesn’t matter how much we prepare ourselves this eight months, if we are unable to collect the money, it would be the first time in all the years of the delegation that we won’t travel to the conference.
That’s the reason I’m asking for your help! We need all the help we can get to be able to travel to Boston in February 2018. Not only we are moving ground and earth to collect money by ourselves and get sponsors. We also have a GOFUNDME were we are accepting donations for everyone who want to help us get to the competition and somehow help us build the future of our country.
